What does Islam says about the ethics of war. Since, killing is haram in Islam whose name itself stands for peace,then how come war is allowed? I know Phrophet Muhammad (sm) provided some intruction about war that " Do not kill any old person, any child or any woman", "Do not kill the monks in monasteries" or "Do not kill the people who are siting in places of worship." But still in war there is killilng involve......So how does it work?

Confusion about Jihad is not a new issue. Specially when the whole western media promoting Jihad with wrong paint on it. Tell me first, what u think abt the liberation war in BD in 1971. Does that justify? If that justifies, then I don't know why ppl are shakey to accept Jihad.
The world is not perfect. From the beggining of its history, humen are fighting to protect their legitimate rights! the situation is still the same. If you don't fight, somebody is going to oppress you with your right. more or less, this is the story of human race.
And now abt Islam saying abt jihad (kital), Jihad is permitted against them who are fighting against you. Quran Says in Sura Baqara -
"And fight in the Way of Allâh AGAINST THOSE WHO FIGHT YOU, but transgress not the limits. Truly, Allâh likes not the transgressors." [2:190]
"...and fight against the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) collectively, AS THEY FIGHT AGAINST YOU COLLECTIVELY...." [9:36]
you are not that fool to just sit and get killed while ppl are coming to fight u. R u?
and after giving permission of fighting, Allah orders Muhammad (sw) -
"And if anyone of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) seeks your protection then grant him protection, so that he may hear the Word of Allâh (the Qur’ân), and then escort him to where he can be secure, that is because they are men who know not." [9:6]
Tell me sister, which commander on the face of earth, which general of this world - is so generous to ESCORT his enemy to a SAFE PLACE with full protection????????

You said it right, there are many confusion going on with Jihad and how its promoting , is absolutely corrupted. But it was only a question of which i wanted to hear some answer. Instead, I am very much on liberal side of Jihad and appreciate it the way as it supposed to be.
The thing is that the term " jihad " has been much abused, as you mentioned to conjure up bizarre images of violent Muslims, forcing people to submit at the point of the sword. This myth was perpetuated during the centuries of mistrust during and after the Crusades. Unfortunately, it survives to this day.
As you mentioned about the 71' libeation war. There is no single for revealing doubt on its justice. We had to fought. Yes, many people do not even want to bother to think about the meaning of Jihad since they are influenced. The word jihad comes from the root word jaheda which means to stuggle. So jihad is literally an act of sturggling. Thus jihad also encompasses the inner struggle of being a person of virtue and submission to god in all aspects of life. It refers to struggle against injustice.
ha ha, Nope. I dont think i will be awaiting for the attacker chasing at me. But you know what, unfortunate part is that today this stuggling has given a corrputed name. And I am not cent percent sure people are naming jihad as terrorism are enemy of Islam. Who knows?
I can recall what Martin Luther king Jr, said, " We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people "
