The 21st February of 1952; Violation of Section 144 in demand of
declaring Bangla as one of the state languages- Spontaneous
participation of people from all walks of lives in the procession to
save the dignity of their mother tongue-Police brutality-Storms of
bullets-Loss of some innocent human lives…….. No, not loss! Gaining-
gaining some new stars in the sky towards the heaven. They will
always remain in the deepest and purest core of human hearts.
With the passage of time, 55 years have passed. Standing on the 21st
February of 2007-the burning question is now -what is the
achievement of these 55 years in terms of our language? How far our
love for language has spread? To what extent the 21st February is
related or relevant to today's youth?
The answer is the 21st February is sphered to the entire existence
of today's youth-the colorful and diverse arrangements of North
South University Sangstrik Shangathan are the burning example of
that. How?? Well, all these will be exposed in the following pares.
For the last 12 years NSUSS has presented many magnificent programs
to uphold our language and cultural diversities- the arrangement of
this year also was no exception. The arrangement began with the road
paintings on the roads in front of NSU. Each letter painted on the
black pitches was narrating the biography of language martyrs.
Visiting the Central Shaheed Minar, waiting for hours for paying
homage with flowers-was on one hand an usual gesture: yet so
unusual, fresh and new on other hand! Then how can one forget about
the rally arranged here on 21st February? It began from the BTA &
SPZ and the participation of huge number of students once again
proved the affection for language of the NSUers.
But the most unique arrangement of this year was a program arranged
by the NSUSS titled `Polash Ranga Ekush' to commemorate the
occasion on the 22nd February. The program was based on a story of
an imagined language martyr named Shuvo. The biography of the
language martyr was portrayed successfully with the help of acting,
singing performance and voice over.
We have always commemorated The Ekushe February with due respect and
high reverence. The martyrs have been considered as super heroes of
our life. But through this program a completely new chapter of their
lives was unfold to us. A language martyr is also a blood and
fleshed human being this came into our realization after watching
the program.
The martyr named Shuvo was seen from the eyes of a mother, a
brother, a friend and a lover. We don't know when Shuvo from a
national pride became a boy next door, a normal human being who
loves his mother immensely, to whom the world has not yet become
very complicated to consider his mother a burden, who even now eats
from his mother's hands, can not sleep without having head massage
done from mother. At the same time, we come across the story of such
an extra-ordinary mother who can sacrifice her own life for her son
but at the same time can sacrifice the beloved son for saving the
dignity of her mother tongue. All these were beautifully conveyed
through the letters written by Shuvo to his mother.
What sort of relationship exists between two brothers? Well in most
of the cases it's a love & hate relationship. Shuvo and his brother
possessed no exception. In a letter written to Shuvo his brother
placed a lot of complaints against him at Shuvo's selfishness of
attending all the protests alone without taking him along. According
to Shuvo's brother, Shuvo always did the same. Never allowed him in
any danger; always faced every odd single handedly. But we don't
know why we found nothing but unconditional love in these words.
Then, how was Shuvo to his friends? They had discovered a completely
different side of him. They were very astonished at his
unprecedented bravery. How a boy of Shuvo's caliber who could not
even talk properly with his friends could show such courage? Was the
boy from the village was politically more aware then his urbane
counterparts?
If you love someone love his entire being. Be his strength; not
weakness-this fact of life became clearer than ever to me through
the letters of Shuvo's lover. Normally a woman does not feel
comfortable talking about her ex-love. But if the lover is like
Shuvo then every girl will pray to Almighty that at every birth she
has a companion like him.
In acting Fahad, Adiba, Nitu and Ratul excelled in the characters of
friend, mother, lover and brother of the Protagonist Shuvo
respectively. The singing performances of Saleh, Kirti, Mow and
Marjia were heart touching and wonderful. The recitation of Farah
of `Kumro Phule Phule' by Abu Zafar Obaidullah took the night to a
different height. The stage and voice over was flawlessly done by
Farah and Rasel. The hour's long program was witnessed by the
Honorable Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. SAN Khairul Bashar. GED Chairman Dr. Khalequzzaman Elias, Faculty Advisor Dr. Dina Forkan and the respected Faculty members.
One thing was clear to me that very day-not only 55 years-not only
one century-not even only one millennium- as long as there will
remain a single heart beating for Bangla on this globe-we will
uphold the spirit of immortal Ekushe-this was the profound oath of
NSUSSers on that noble day.
