Amar personal concept about Liberation War is that it was the ultimate example of Sacrifice, Dreams, Dedication, Patriotism and sheer luck..oh and include distortion of truth and Hypocracy..
Sacrifice because the freedom fighters, i mean the REAL freedom fighters who faught in the battles, had sacrificed all that a man or woman has in this world.. or atleast they did put all of that up on the alter to be sacrificed for a free country..
Dreams because they dreamt of having a beautiful country where everyone would care for everyone else and nomore will the common man be a victim of economic suppression..They had this dream even though they had hundreds of years of history of how these dreams are never successful in this part of the globe.. and yet they had the ability of dreaming..
Dedication.. the freedom fighters fought each battle with the dedication only possible by normal men and women.. trained forces know when to turn back and give up to fight another day.. the regular university student who were in those battles didnt know when to quit and gave their lives and won the battles that might not have been won if these were the battles between just two military forces..ofcourse there are exceptions but when i read about the 12 year old kid who was tortured all night and then told to reveal secrets or die and the kid just rubbed a bit of the soil on his forehead and said "if i die now i have no regrets..", i have a hard time imagining this level of dedication from others.. i really do..
Patriotism.. I dont think i need to explain this at all..
Sheer luck because the whole war was induced by a lot of coincidences that led to the ultimate consequence.. if things went a slight bit differently then we might have never had this war or lost it..I admire Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his leadership skills but i have my own doubts about whether he would have chosen this war had the Pakistani Government decided to make him the prime minister according to the vote results..its my persional opinion but i have my doubts about this issue..and had Pakistan not made the mistake of attacking the Indians and allowing them to gain a cause to join the war..we might not have won it in nine months..and whether we would have been able to win this war if we didnt have India as an ally due to their animosity towards the Pakis is another question to ponder..it surely wouldnt have been this quick..
The distortion of truth and hypocracy includes the roles of the political figures who spent lavish times in Kolkata and came back to declare themselves the supreme champions of liberation war and creating a blasphemy over a small issue like who declared the beginning of the war..and lastly i despise those so called intellectuals who hid in their apartments and worked for the pakistani governement during the whole process and now claim they were freedom fighters in their own ways.. ofcourse there were ppl who fought the war without having a gun in their hand.. but there are also ppl who claim they did a lot when all they did was hide behind their doors and came out only when they knew it was safe..
That is what the Liberation War is to me in a way.. ofcourse there could be umpteen years of discussion about it but in a nutshell that is it.. i hope its close to what you expeceted Naheen..if not then i apologize for this long lecture..
