Does evil exist? Did God create evil? (Wow what a great answer).

The University professor challenged his students with this question.

"Did God create everything that exists?"

A student bravely replied, "Yes he did!"

"God created everything?" The professor asked.

"Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then God is evil."

The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists.! Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at
the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460? F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it everyday. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name -- Albert Einstein
Excellent arguement.. Einstein er ei kahini ta ami jantam na..superb..

Ekta kotha mathay aslo obossho.. Isnt it accepted that God is everywhere? How can he be absent from anyplace? Maybe theres a better way of explaining evil in the same context..
cold -no heat -no emition of energy -can't happen -so cold doesn't exist
darkness -no light -can't happen -so darkness doesn't exist
evil -no God -can't happen -evil doesn't exist

according to this theory
cold is just a feeling result of less heat,
darkness is result of less light,
and evil is result of less God? / God-ness? / Goodness

ultimate answer should be - God is everywhere evil doesn't exist for sure
so what we assume as an evil did actually results of some acts, or less goodness.. so maybe there is nothing which we can call itself a real/pure evil

"God created suffering and heartache, so that joy might be known as their opposite. Hidden things become manifest through their opposites. But God has no opposite; so he remains hidden. Light is known as the opposite of darkness. But God's light has no opposite. Thus we cannot know him through our eyes." -Rumi, "Masnavi"

y... don ask.. i dunno
Shush..i agree with you that there probably isnt anything that is pure evil..

I personally have different ideas about Satan..i think God actually rewarded him by giving him those powers..before i go any further let me mention that this is purely a personal opinion and i dont expect any of you to accept it or believe it unless you find it logical..

God actually ordered everyone to worship only him and nobody else.. but when he asked everyone to bow down to Adam, all of them obliged without thinking cuz its God's order..Satan didnt..and that is where i think he did the smart thing..to do that would have been a direct violation of his first order..what is believed to be a punishment is actually a reward to me because God made him his counterpart as far as the battle of good and evil is concerned.. the rest of the angels who just followed the second order without thinking werent given anything special like that.. When a man believes in God he also has to believe in Satan..ultimately if a mans goal in life is to prove that he has the power to choose goodness over evil then the two biggest factors are God and Satan..what better way to make someone special than to make him your opponent with enormous powers instead of a mere employee? Gabriel or Azrael isnt mentioned half as much as Satan is..

Once again i emphasize that its a totally personal explanation that might be worth giving a thought about.. i dont worship Satan.. nor am i an atheist..i try to follow God's order where he told us to "think and believe".. not just believe in a blind manner..
Asif vaia's explanation is interesting. But I think GOD did not made Satan his opponent he made Satan our opponent. And to bow down to someone except GOD was not forbidden earlier. It was a way to show respect. If you see sura Yusuf(I am not exactly sure about the name of the sura, But it is regarding hazrat Yusuf(aws) ) you can find that his brothers bowed down to him.
Afterwards bowing down to someone except Allah was made completely forbidden. It is not permissible in islam.
