WHY Smoking consider haram????? Well Islam has an answer. Islam is a Revelation from Allah with a complete code of life. It tells what is good and what is evil: Allah says in the Holy Quran: And We have shown him (man) the two ways (good and evil). (Quran 90/10)
He allows them all that is good and lawful, and prohibits them as unlawful all that is evil (things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, drinks, etc.). (Quran 7/157)
So, is smoking (cigarettes, pipes, etc.) evil or not?
Let us examine its effects:
* Smoking is a killer: causes lung-cancer, lung-tuberculosis and heart diseases.
Allah says: And do not kill yourselves. (Quran 4/29)
He also says: And do not throw yourselves into destruction. (Quran 2/195)

These verses are sufficient to make smoking Haram
* Smoking is a wasting of wealth. Allah says: ...But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift, Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the devils, and the Devil (Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord. (Quran 17/26-27)
* The smoker is unjust to himself as well as his family by burning away his money and his chest!
* The smoker not only causes harm to himself, he/she also inflicts harms upon others around him/her.
The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." (Saheeh Al-Jami 7517)
* The smokers cause the spread of evil; they smoke openly and thus encourage others to do the same.
* The smokers dislike fasting and praying because they become impatient. They want to go for the next "round". The smoker becomes like an edict.
* The smoker smells bad! His car, home, clothes etc. carry the bad smell too.

From the above, it is clear that smoking is evil and thus it is Haram.
The other logics i have already talked about in the other thread.. let me touch the ones i havent..

Being unjust to yourself is a matter of perspective and own choice.. when a woman buys 5 new dresses that seems unjust to a guy because that is not a necessity but a luxury.. when she has more than a dozen pair of shoes that also seems unjust and a waste of money... but yet spending a lot less that on ciggarette is called unjust in this case.. clearly not true..

not all smokers cause harm to others.. i smoke only in open places and without having ppl around me most of the times.. and i certainly dont beg anyone to stay around me when i smoke.. so once again the choice is of the one who stays.. not mine..When you drive a car or ride a cng you are harming somebody through the air pollution you are endorcing and ofcourse you have an option of taking a rickshaw or walk and get out early to reach the destination..

Smoking openly doesnt really encourage others to smoke.. Nirob, you yourself have seen plenty of ppl smoking but have you taken it up? No.. in that case how does the logic work that anybody who smokes in the open would tempt somebody to take up smoking for themselves?

Its utter bullcrap that smokers dislike fasting.. i myself have been fasting without a miss for the last 15 years or so and im almost a chain smoker.. so there goes that logic..and praying never depended on smoking.. it doesnt take a lot of time to pray and smokers can easily stay off the cigg for that amount of time.. if anybody doesnt pray, its becuase he or she doesnt want to.. not becuase that would stop them from smoking..

Smokers smell bad to some non-smokers.. its true.. but some non-smokers smell bad to smokers too.. specially ppl who dont use perfumes or take regular baths.. and yet i dont see anybody calling them evil.. and anybody who find the smokers repulsive can easily stay away from them.. calling them evil is taking it a tad bit too far..

EVIL is a big word.. it means an extremely negative attribute.. the logics presented so far hardly enables anybody to call smoking an evil thing to do.. its surely a bad habit.. but EVIL really doesnt come as low as smoking.. mass murderers are evil.. psychopaths are evil.. satan is evil.. but smokers surely aint that bad.. and if you believe they are then i believe your prejudice is going to cross the border and enter the land of bigotry very soon..

Well, It is not the matter of u and I...while putting some logics, then it is intelligent to think broadly and statistically. In this particular point of encouraging, I would say, smoking is encouraging, influential and the shubject of peer pressure. Statistics show,

- Peer influence seems to play an important role in smoking. Teenagers who have close friends who smoke are more likely to be smokers themselves. Smoking may be viewed as a forbidden adult behavior, or even an act of defiance to authority figures. Poor grades in school and having parents who smoke are associated with teenage smoking. For males, not going to college is also associated with higher rates of smoking. This is not true for females. Parental approval or disapproval seems not to have any conclusive effect on teen-age decision about smoking. Smoking helps you make friends and make you more desirable. Peer Pressure plays a huge role in making smoking habits..
-Another reason why people start smoking could be from living with people who smoke. Children who grow up with smokers take up the habit more frequently then those who grow up in a smoke-free home. The Health Bulletin of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services revealed this as a fact. Peer pressure is a major influence among teenagers in our society. Young adults who have friends who take up the habit tend to start themselves. Therefore, smoking is influential..
-Advertising techniques are one of the main reasons that people begin to smoke. Cigarette companies claim not to target young kids, but that is very untrue. Have you ever seen a billboard with normal, middle aged person smoking? Do they show people with stained teeth, wrinkled faces, and a large cloud of smoke hovering over their heads- the direct results of smoking. No. Instead they have figures like Joe Camel. Some children are as familiar with Joe Camel as they are with Mickey Mouse! In the first 4 years that the Camel ads featured Joe Camel, smokers under 18 raised from 1% to as much as 30%. The cigarette companies know that children like humor and cartoons, and Joe Camel has both.  In this case, smoking is very much an encouraging subject..

this is an educational site...therefore, the chance of putting some crabs statistcs cuts down into decimals..

hehehehhehe.... since my previous post has became lengthy, i have posted twice... eta kisuta off topic but feeling like to clear it. well the word evil was mentioned due to the refference of Quran. It wasn't mine word..u saw it in the lines of Quran...And besides that, dekha geche in the time of distinguishing valo and mond, good and evil words tends to get used widely. And qurane beshir vag shomoy negative side guloke as evil mentioned kora hoise...nobody's hand on there....
if i take a normal reference in educational or some kind of critics reference then boro philoshopher, writer tarao kintu good and evil word gulo beshi use korsen....For instance, Shakesphere, jonab jokhoni kono comparisione gesen tokhoni good vs. evil mention koresen...such as in macbeth, Julius ceaser.

So evil doesn't always means satan....btw you mention psychopaths are evil....ehme thats reminds me a comic relief in this logical conversation....ehemm ahemm..boshonte kar profile jeno dekhlam...that someone claimed to be a psychopaths....ehmm...

hehehhe...joke...dil pe matle yaar!!!! Smile
I didnt say evil means satan.. what im saying is a deed has to be of a certain high level before it can be classified as Evil.. that is exactly why Quran, in most cases, indicated which deeds are evil and did not leave it to the imgaination of others..Arekta jinish mone rakha uchit.. the lack of goodness doesnt define evil.. just like the lack of evil doesnt guarantee goodness..

As for me claiming to be a psychopath.. well hell yeah..the arguement is about smoking being evil or not.. i didnt once try to defend myself.. whatever i am doesnt need defending..psychopath ra ja kore tai evil na..some of their deeds are.. they also breath and read books.. doesnt mean anyone who breaths and reads books are evil.. tai na?
