Tai-Pan - James Clavell, Awesome book about how an opium trader named Dirk Struan form Hong Kong in the 19th century and how life was for them back then..it provides a wonderful insight in the culture and thought process of the chinese..its an epic and a must read as far as i am concerned..but its big.. 734 pages..
Noble House - James Clavell, The sequel to Tai-Pan.. the story is set in 100 years into the future from Dirk Struan.. its about how his descendants are handling business in Honk Kong in 1960s.. another must read and absolutely essential if you have read Tai-Pan.. a warning though, its HUGE.. 1370 pages..can get a bit stretched at times..
King Rat - James Clavell, a wonderful insight into the world of Changi, the prisons for WW-II soldiers caught by the Japanese..how ppl survive in the extremes of malnutrition, torture and how men can shine in the most dire consequences and yet give in to the smallest temptations..its a compact novel and i loved it..
